On October 7, 2022 was the homecoming game Eisenhower vs. Grand Terrace. This was a highly anticipated game due to the homecoming season but also because the Eisenhower football team had an undefeated season. They won all six games that they played and were expected to win the rest of this season. Along with this game there was a parade that involved marching band, a number of clubs, and the selected students of each graduating class.
First quarter started and immediately, Eisenhower knew what they wanted and that was to defeat Grand Terrace, so the first touchdown was made 15 seconds into the game, however they did not make their field goal. A little after Eisenhower’s touchdown, Eisenhower’s quarterback #12 took a hard hit and had to leave the game by ambulance . Fortunately, there were no permanent or long-lasting injuries to him and will be able to play in the next 2 weeks. The consequence of this determined the rest of the game. Later in quarter one, Grand Terrace made a touchdown and their field goal making the final score of quarter one Ike-6 and Grand Terrace- 7, concluding the first quarter.
Second quarter begins and Eisenhower continues with their good plays however they did not make another touchdown after the incident. Towards the end of quarter two, Grand Terrace made another touchdown and their field goal making the score now Ike- 6 and Grand Terrace-14.
While the Eisenhower football team made their way to the locker room humbled and desperate of this win, Eisenhower’s marching band and color guard started on the track and began marching and playing the song “September” By Earth, Wind, And Fire. They lead the beautiful parade around the whole track with multiple clubs following after them. Such clubs were theater, speech and debate, chess, and cheer, then students of 2026, 2025, 2024, and 2023 all walked along the track. After the parade The winning Homecoming King and Queen were announced, the winning reign were Ceaser Martinez for Homecoming King and Gabrielle Gomez for Homecoming Queen. After the announcement of the King and Queen, the third quarter began.
Third quarter began and the score remained the same 6 vs. 14 for the rest of the game. Third quarter continued and ended and the fourth quarter began. Fourth quarter was the quarter that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Eisenhower did not make another touchdown but neither did Grand Terrace because of great defense between both teams. Eisenhower kept pushing Grand Terrace further and further back onto their side. They corrected their plays but could not make another touchdown before the time was up leaving the score Ike 6 - Grand Terrace 14.
This game was definitely one of the most memorable of the season, not because it was Eisenhower’s first loss of their season but because they kept pushing and did not stop until they got to the very end of Grand Terrace. This isn’t the end for our boys. They still have 3 more games to make this season to the best of their ability.
