What happened in 2020


2020. What a year. Now that we are a month and a half into 2021 we here at the golden Gazette feel we are finally at a safe enough distance from 2020 to look back at all that has happened. From the moment 2020 was rung in to the moment it was rung out, from the tragic deaths to protests and pandemics and everything in between.



January


  • 2 Australian Fires

  • 3 Iranian General Qasem Soleimani is assassinated

  • 4 Jet fuel dumped in Los Angeles

  • The US and Iran tension increases

  • 8 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce they are stepping down from their duties as senior royals in Buckingham Palace.

  • 23 Wuhan, China — the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak — goes under an unprecedented lockdown, impacting 11 million residents.

  • 30 United States reports its first confirmed case of person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus

  • One year since the outbreak of the first reported COVID- 19 case.

  • 11 the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine becomes the first covid vaccine to be approved for emergency use by the FDA for individuals 16 and older

  • 14 the first Americans were vaccinated against the coronavirus

  • 18 the Moderna vaccine is granted emergency use authorization by the FDA for use of individuals 18 and older, only the second in the U.S.

  • 21 The Jupiter and Saturn alignment

  • 28 California becomes the first state to surpass 2 million covid cases



Overall 2020 had a lot of obstacles for everyone but here at the Golden Gazette we are hopeful that 2021 can be a great year even if it is off to a rocky start. Regardless of what’s in store for us Keep working hard Eagles!
