The Jazz Age, when jazz was at its finest moment and was gaining popularity worldwide. From the 1920s to the 1930s jazz was the most popular form of music. Jazz originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, from the African-American community in the late 19th and early 20th century with roots in blues and ragtime. Jazz consists of instruments like the piano, trombone, bass drum, guitar, saxophone, and trumpet. These instruments work together to create polyrhythms, improvisation with complex chords, and meaningful lyrics. As Jazz got its recognition by other communities it began to spread through the US becoming a great hit in the city of Los Angeles. Nowadays jazz is not dead but it is making its way there. There are still many great jazz musicians out there that will possibly inspire the next generation of jazz. One of many jazz singers is Duke Ellington, who sang for over 50 years and had over 1,000 compositions. A few famous modern day jazz bands and musicians include Fourplay, Kamasi Washington, Esperanza Spalding and Shakatak.
