AP Tests. The Changes. The Stress. Are They Worth It?

By: David Zaragoza Martinez

AP exams are a great way to earn some college credit, however is it really worth taking the exam this year?

Due to the pandemic, many students have been in online school and because of this, many students haven't been able to retain as much information as they would have, if we were physically in school. While there are many websites we can visit beyond the classroom to learn the content, the test would still be difficult since some students feel like they are teaching themselves the whole course. According to collegeboard and websites like macrolearning.com, the digital exams won't let you go back and forth to see questions. This will create a lot of stress towards students taking these exams and will most likely lead to lower test scores.

A major difference in this year's exam compared to last year is that the exam will be full length and may last up to 3 hours based on the subject. A major change that many people are going crazy about is that the exams will begin at the same time worldwide, therefore many students will have to be awake at 3am based on the region they live in. Although many exams are being offered online, the foreign language and music theory exams are not. Not being able to take the foreign language and music theory exam online has created a lot of stress towards these students and created a big controversy, many of which don't want to take these exams due to the fact that they are scared of getting the virus. The only good thing that collegeboard announced is that they will have no cancelation fee. Is the AP exam worth the stress? Is it worth Taking? Overall, the AP exam may not be worth taking if you did not put in the effort in your AP Class this year, while if distance learning has worked for you, you have a better opportunity of getting that passing score.
