What a way to kick off our October Month with a win against our rival school. Eisenhower High School took the win on Friday’s October 1st Football game against Carter High School. The game was great and you could feel the determination from the players. They did not disappoint. Along with the game, there were performances from the band, color guard, and cheer team. All the performances were amazing.
During the 1st quarter of the football game Carter had made a touchdown in the first 4 minutes and a field goal.
The 2nd quarter began and Carter made another touchdown 2 minutes in and a field goal, making the score Ike 0 - Carter 14. After this, things started turning around. One Ike player made it 70 yards through the field without getting tackled. This gave Ike hope and next thing you know #13 Alonzo Brown made Ike’s first touchdown in the game 4 minutes into the quarter. #64 Angel Perez then made the first field goal of the game, making the score Ike 7 - Carter 14. #2 Kavonn Osborne got Ike further on to Carter’s half 6 minutes into the quarter and one of Ike’s players made a touchdown one minute after. #13 set the next field goal and Ike and Carter are tied, 14 - 14. 11 minutes into the quarter and Carter moved up to Ike’s side, player #13 had other plans and nearly made another touchdown but fell a little out of the endzone. #13 then made a touchdown and field goal while #21 Jacoby Pointer- Cadwell passed the ball for the touchdown. This made the score Ike 21 - Carter 14 but then Carter made another touchdown making the score Ike 21 - Carter 20.
The halftime performances by the band, color guard, and the cheer team was amazing. The formation and marching of the band was clean and precise Their half time show was called “The Age of Baroque”. The color guard moved elegantly with the band. The cheer team had stunts that were so insync and kept our school spirits up. During the halftime, we were able to interview Mr. Camacho on his thoughts about the football team and being able to play after such a long online school year. He says that after almost 2 years of not playing football, the team is having a good return and a good team and that the players have brought Eisenhower pride back to campus. All these inspiring words may have been heard just by these two journalists,
yet the players surely must have heard something due to how well they played in the second half.
Once halftime was up and Eisenhower’s Eagles came back on the field and their eagerness did too. Ike kept on Carter’s side and made a touchdown 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Ike then made a field goal making the score Ike 28 - Carter 20. With 9 minutes left in the quarter #13 made another touchdown. Then a field goal was made making the score Ike 35 - Carter 20. This is where some worry started because Carter came very close to Ike’s half of the field, but #11 Jordan King took a Carter player down. Carter’s player may have been taken down but Carter was still able to make a touchdown making the score for the 3rd quarter Ike 35 - Carter 26.
The fourth and final quarter began and everyone in the crowd was very calm, not much excitement, but then #14 Jermey Pod had a good run on the field, ran off the field, and hyped up the crowd. Everyone was screaming and stomping on the bleachers and this made Ike’s enthusiasm go up. Shortly after this, #2 nearly made it to the end zone but was tackled down. Ike then made a touchdown and #25 Danny Aguirre made a field goal. The score was Ike 42 - Carter 26, and just when Carter thought they had a chance #21 interfered with their play and Ike won with the final score of the rival game being Eagles 42 - Lions 26!
Overall the team kept their defense up very well even though they were at such a great lead. They thankfully defended the Eagles nest. This was an incredible start to the October month so congrats to the Varsity Eagle Football team!
