There are many clubs at Eisenhower High School, one of them being the LGBTQ+ club. This club has been on campus for around 3 years and began because Ms. Matheny and Mr. Nguyen, the club advisors, wanted to make a safe space for students to express themselves and have no fear of being judged, they wanted to bring awareness, acceptance, and support to the students and Eisenhower High School. It has now become that and more. Ms. Matheny has said, “It is now that and a place where we support each other academically and socially.” The members of this club recommend that you join because it helps you and others become more open minded, it’s a place where you can learn about others’ experiences and talk about your own. Yancy Garcia at Eisenhower High School stated, “I like this club because it can teach people to be more accepting and open minded, I also like that anyone can join.” As Yancy Garcia said, “anyone is welcome to join, no matter who you are or what you want to learn from the club.” Another member that preferred to stay anonymous says, “What I like that we learn in this club is different people’s experiences and the experiences that come with being a part of the LGBTQ+ community.” Ms. Matheny likes to emphasize that if you were to join the club, they value kindness, opportunities to meet others with similar experiences, and opportunities to talk about your own experiences. If you or a friend would like to join the LBGTQ+ club, they meet every Wednesday during lunch, during the first lunch in B-14 and during the second lunch in K-4.
