On October 17th for the first time Eisenhower celebrated Hispanic heritage month by having a “Hispanic Heritage Festival'' with dazzling decorations. Without a doubt this event was astronomically incredible.

To start the night off we heard the amazing voice of fellow student Christina Cruz who sang alongside an amazing mariachi band “Si nos dejan '' by Luis Miguel. The crowd went wild cheering “otra, otra” after the first song, concluding with us being able to hear another song being sung by her. The incredible mariachi band serenaded us with some amazing Spanish music like “Ermoso Cariño'', “La Chona'', and “Volver” of which are some major hits made by some of our greatest Hispanic artists.

While listening to our amazing Latin music people were able to line up at the taco truck “Tacos Vip.” There is no doubt that the taco truck was a huge hit with people quickly lining up to obtain some amazing authentic Mexican food. Out of all of the ontreys that you were able to choose from were sopes, mulitas, carne asada fries, quesabirrias and of course tacos just to name a few.

Not only was there incredible food but we were also served with the presence of some of our school clubs like Sobobons who were selling sugar skulls made by an amazing group of ladies and teachers, Aca Deca who were selling some sugary pink cotton candy, the girls basketball team selling snacks and beverages, Think Together giving out free ice cones, as well as amazing games, and photo booths to capture beautiful moments with friends and family.

Later that night we got to see some sensational Aztec dancers of which started off the night by thanking mother nature and our ancestors. Alongside with many of the things that these beautiful dancers said, one of the dancers who was from Jalisco, Tecuexe which means “tiera de mujer fuestra'' translated to “land of a strong woman”, mentioned that their dances were called “Dances asesórales” and also said “Con nuestra cultura hispana espero hacer un rezo a nuestros corazones para que inyecte una curiosidad a nuestros corazones de nuestra cultura” of which translates to “With our Hispanic culture, I hope to make a prayer to our hearts so that it injects a curiosity into them about our culture.”

Not only was the food a great hit but so were the Aztec dancers with people settling down in the quad with friends and family as the sun started setting to see these dancers bring us a peace, passion and connection with our Latin culture.

This event brought together our Hispanic community here at Eisenhower and we wouldn't have been able to have experienced this without some of our fellow students here at Eisenhower, our staff and the host of this whole event, our history teacher Mr. Davis who never fails to remind us of how important our culture is.
