Many Rialto Unified School District employees, teachers, parents, and students have all agreed that distance learning is a real hassle. If you are one of those people then I am pleased to report that the one thing you have been wishing for, to finally go back to school, will soon be granted. This will be great news for some, bad for others, some will really not care, but regardless this should signal that finally our lives may soon get back to normal.
The decision to return to school occurred just last night, when the school board voted unanimously to allow all schools, middle, elementary, and high to return to school beginning April 5th through the end of the school year. Returning to school is also mandatory, so be prepared. The school board has also issued a statement saying, “We are glad to announce that after an emergency board meeting taken at 6 o’clock last night, we are pleased to report that the school board has unanimously voted to allow schools to reopen...This should signal to all Rialto Unified School District staff, parents, and students that our lives may soon be returning to a bit of normalcy.”
The School Board has also laid out the guidelines and expectations they have for each school who will reopen. In the previously mentioned statement the school board also stated, “In order to comply with all guidelines set for by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health we have determined that the following precautions must be taken to ensure that everyone feels safe on campus despite the ongoing pandemic. Students must wear masks at all times, schools may not open at full capacity, students and staff will receive weekly covid tests, if a student or staff member tests positive the whole classroom will be quarantined, social distancing of 3 feet or greater must be met, schools must be kept clean and orderly, there must be hand sanitizing stations located every 20 feet. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in immediate disciplinary action including but not limited to suspension of students, termination of staff, and if guidelines are repeatedly broken, expulsion will be considered.” The school board has also recommended that those able to get a vaccination get one, although it is not required.
This may come as a surprise to most, and who doesn’t like surprises. Whether you're happy about this or not, attendance is mandatory so be prepared and don’t get sick. Oh, and remember that April 5th is next week, but it is April Fools Day so my sources could be wrong. Happy April Fools Day!
