Eisenhower's Elite Eagles made a trip down to University of California San Diego (UDSD) as well as San Diego State University (SDSU)! The main purpose of the trip was to not only learn about the campuses and college life, but also give a first hand experience of what kind of campus would be better for these students to help determine what type of secondary education they would prefer when applying to colleges later on. Some highlights of this trip include
My third and favorite monument from this campus was the Fallen Star monument, which is a fully furnished home on the top of the 7 story tall engineering building! Although odd at first, the meaning meant to portray is the sense of displacement after immigrating or moving on campus, just as the artist Do Ho Suh felt when first coming here. However as time passes, being amazed by the house being there disappears, just as the displacement by the students who attend the school.
Next we went to San Diego State. Here we mostly discussed about the architecture as well as the different athletic opportunities to try out. Did you know the library is surprisingly filled with over 1M+ different books? (according to a librarian we asked during the visit there.)
To wrap up the trip, we took a trip down to Belmont Park, which was right off the beach. It is also a perfect spot to look at birds. (Please don’t chase them.)
Overall, we had an amazing time and I personally was able to learn the difference between how the size of a campus will affect the type of colleges I plan to apply to later on. Huge thank you to Mrs. Ibrahimi, Mrs. Kull, and Mrs. Stevenson for making this trip possible.
