Top Songs on Campus

By Yasuri Chimal & Savannah Alarcon

Among students at Eisenhower High School, there are many different variations of music tastes. From the famous band Metallica, to artists like The Weeknd. After asking students at Ike what music they enjoy right now, we have found the top of each music category in the month of October. An artist that was mentioned quite a bit was Tyler, the Creator. He is the creator of popular albums like, “IGOR”, “Flower Boy” and his most recent one, “CMIYGL (Call Me If You Get Lost)” released in June 25, 2021, which still continues to be an album listened to by so many people. Bands like The Smiths and The Cure continue to draw people in; both bands from around the 1980’s, yet they still have a good amount of listeners here at Ike. Bands like Metallica and Social Distortion are from around the same decade, and they too have not let go of many people today. It’s safe to say that the top genre at Ike would be rock or R&B.

While Tyler, The Creator’s songs were the top songs on campus, there were some runner ups. Steve Lacy’s album “Gemini Rights'' released on July 15, 2022, has been a huge hit these past months. His most popular songs on the album are Bad Habit, Static, Mercury, and Helmet. These songs have not only been on replay at Ike but also on TikTok. The next artist who has been popular recently is The Weeknd. Heartless, Thursday, and Dawn FM, all by The Weeknd were some students' top songs. There are many other artist who were mentioned such as Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Mac Demarco, PnB Rock, The Smiths, The Marias, Liana Flores, Social Distortion, Nirvana, Drake, OhGeesy, Cigarettes After Sex, Radiohead, Cults, Eyedress, TV Girl, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Frank Ocean, Omar Apollo, d4vd, Duster, Cuco, Los Retros, Grentperez, Kanye West, Joji, Rocco, Hotel Ugly, Vacations, Men I Trust, and so on. These are all artists of songs that Eisenhower High School students said were currently their top song they were listening to for the month of October.

If you see some songs or artists that you have heard of or never seen before we encourage you to try listening to them. After all, it would be nice to try something new for a change. So when you’re listening to your usual playlist in class or at home look back at this article and pick some new artists or songs to listen to, who knows maybe you’ll enjoy it!
