Writer's Strike

By De'Kree Antone

What would happen if someone were to tell you that your favorite TV show on Netflix was to stop unexpectedly? Well, that nightmare is close enough to become a reality. On May 2 of this year, writers for our favorite movies and TV shows have been on strike against The Hollywood studios. This is a long sentence, maybe split it into two due to no increase in pay even though production of movies and TV shows has been at the highest it has been in years thanks to the vast amount of streaming services available to the public. Unfortunately, the studios did not see these efforts and so when they released the new contract The Writers Guild of America (A union for writers in any form of media better known as WGA) did not take it very lightly. The strike is still in play and people fear that the profession of writers is at potential risk. This has not been the first time that Hollywood and the guild did not see eye to eye. In 2007 a similar problem occurred where the demand for more pay was to the larger studios. This sentence is a little confusing. Maybe combine this sentence with the next one and change some wording. That lasted 100 days until they won. In that 100-day window shows like SNL, Grey's Anatomy, and breaking bad were harshly impacted by the loss of their writers. So, until Hollywood stops being so hard-headed and increases their compensation, that next season of your favorite show is most likely not going to be released anytime soon.
