Eisenhower Baseball

By: Hannah Chimal

Baseball is one of the sports that is offered at Eisenhower High School, the sport has been on campus for as long as the campus has been here, which is a pretty long time! There were tryouts during October and now, we have two teams which include the Varsity team and JV, which is Junior Varsity. The baseball team practices on weekdays afterschool at the baseball field, and sometimes they meet on Saturdays. The coach / advisor of these teams is Mr. Cortez, and he played baseball during high school and college! He says “I’ve been playing since I was little, my dad taught me to play baseball so it’s something that I’ve always loved.” Additionally, he says that baseball is a really fun sport and he recommends others to play. Mr. Cortez continues by saying that the players and himself become really close friends, almost like family. “Baseball gives a lot of them a purpose like not only are they staying eligible to play a sport, but it helps somewhat with their grade so they stay focused and they have something to look forward to.” Both baseball teams like to think that they don’t just represent themselves, but the school as well, mostly because they have the school’s name on their jerseys and hats. They want to do everything they can to show they all are #1 athletes and good members of the community. Currently, one of the goals that the baseball teams wish to accomplish is to win the league and make the playoffs. The baseball season starts in February and their first game takes place against Carter High School!
