Valley College is now providing great new opportunities for high school students in Rialto to take college course classes within their high school careers. In these courses, a professor from Valley College comes in and gives college-level lectures for the subject given, they are also per semester and are 2 classes out of your normal high school schedule, and passing them results in transferable college credits and gives you high school credit for that class. For example, I myself am in the program and I took economics my freshman year, this means that now I don't have to take econ my senior year or in my college career because I already have the credits needed for that course.
I had asked Professor Shultz and Professor Preciado, currently teaching U.S. History and Art Appreciation for the sophomores in the program, if they think that taking the Early College program benefits the students; “It gives them the opportunity to get comfortable in the college-level environment and to prepare for what's ahead.” said U.S. history Professor Shultz. The art professor had a similar opinion, “Yes, it does benefit the students because they are being talked to and treated in a way they have never been treated”. The students taking the classes also think that the program has opened new doors for them, although they are not denying that the work can be stressful.
