Who is Mr. Martinelli? Surprisingly, several people still ask this question. Mr. Martinelli is a U.S. and AP U.S. History teacher at Eisenhower High School (IKE), with most of his students being juniors. Before becoming a permanent teacher, he worked as a long-term substitute. This is his second year in the Rialto School District, having previously taught at a middle school in Sunnyvale for three years and served as a second-grade assistant teacher in Los Angeles.
Mr. Martinelli’s journey in education began when he volunteered for environmental improvements in downtown Los Angeles. He helped students transform the LA River into a flowing waterway, rather than just a concrete channel. He always knew he was fascinated by history and decided to major in a history-related field. At first, he considered working at historical museums, having enjoyed visits to the Getty Villa Museum when he was younger. However, teaching history was always an option, especially since he didn't have the best experience in his own history classes as a student and wanted to create something better for future generations.
Mr. Martinelli earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cal State LA and Arizona State, and also earned credits from Cal State Poly. Additionally, he contributed to the U.S. Literacy Program.
On campus, Mr. Martinelli is known for making everyone feel welcome and treating all students equally. "He doesn’t judge; he listens, and it feels like he genuinely cares when I talk to him,” says Emily Salazar, one of his former students, speaking for many others. Mr. Martinelli values his students and recognizes their achievements through Ike Value Winners’ prizes when they demonstrate positive behavior. “I hope my students find fulfilling jobs where they continue learning and helping others throughout their lives. Learning is lifelong,” says Mr. Martinelli.
If you find yourself walking by the G Building, feel free to stop by G-5 and greet Mr. Martinelli with a fist bump. Fist bumps for everyone!
